CHUCK BERRY TRIBUTE

0 Review Sydney , NSW

About

Chuck Berry took the blues, blended it with country music, and attached lyrics that perfectly captured the trials and tribulations of growing up in the USA during the 1950’s. His stunning sound was a major influence on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and his potent musical mixture had an enormous effect on 20th Century popular music, continuing to this very day.

Charles Edward Anderson Berry was born in St Louis on 18th October 1926. Even before he could walk he was fascinated by music, and in high school he began to sing and play guitar. In 1951 he took a job as a janitor at radio station WEW, where one of the musicians sold him his first electric guitar. By 1952 Chuck was singing and playing rhythm guitar at Huff’s Garden in St Louis. Soon enough, Chuck teamed up with Johnny Johnson at the much bigger Cosmopolitan Club in East St Louis, and as they say, the rest is history.

The incredible band paying tribute includes leading Sydney musicians Jeremy Edwards (guitar - Liza Ohlback, “Pearl - Janis Joplin”, Glen Cardier), George Brugmans (drums - Ray Beadle, The Detonators), Adam Pringle (guitar - Mitchell Anderson, Rob Susz), Benny Edwards (bass - Ray Beadle), and Rob Woolf (keys - Rob Susz, Declan Kelly) - all Berry devotees! Expect to hear classics such as Maybelline, Little Queenie, Johnny B. Goode, O’ Carol, Roll Over Beethoven, Rockin’ in the USA and many, many more. Expect also to see a dance floor reeling’ and rocking’!
Apart from the fabulous music the band entertains with brief anecdotes and insights into Chuck Berry “The Man” together with fascinating back stories to the songs and history of rock and roll.
